Write your first useful AI email (5 minutes)

Goal: Turn a short, messy note into a clear email you can review—using only the practice facts below.

Best for: Absolute beginners who have never finished one useful AI task.

Time: About 5 minutes of practice (chat only). No files, plugins, or payment required.

What you will do

By the end of this lesson, you will turn a short note into a clear email. You only need a chat app and the sample text below. Do not paste private information. First copy the example, then change one instruction and compare the result.

Before you start

1. Open the AI chat tool you already use (ChatGPT, Claude, or Grok). A free account is enough if ordinary text chat works. 2. Do not paste real names, client details, or secrets. Use the practice facts.

Sample facts (safe to copy)

You are writing to Alex. You cannot attend a meeting on Tuesday. You would like to ask whether Thursday afternoon works instead. No exact time has been agreed.

Prompt (copy this)

Write a friendly email to Alex using only these facts:
- I cannot attend our Tuesday meeting.
- Ask whether Thursday afternoon would work instead.
Keep it under 60 words. Do not invent a reason, a meeting time, or a confirmation.
Include a subject line.

Example response (illustrative)

Subject: Could we move our meeting?

Hi Alex, I can’t attend our meeting on Tuesday. Would Thursday afternoon work for you instead? Please let me know. Thanks!

This example is for teaching. Your model may word it differently. That is fine if the facts stay the same.

Check (pass / fail)

1. Does it keep the same facts (Tuesday cancel, Thursday afternoon as a question)? 2. Does it ask rather than claim the new date is confirmed? 3. Is it under about 60 words? 4. Did it invent a reason, time, or promise you did not give?

If any answer is wrong, send this follow-up:

The new meeting time is not confirmed. Please turn that statement into a question and keep the rest unchanged.

Done

You have a draft you can review. Do not send the sample to a real person. Next, try changing the tone while keeping the facts the same—or start Your first 7 days.
